bed side candles

welcome to the ultimate guide to mastering the “sickly victorian girl” aesthetic!

"you pierce my soul. i am half agony, half hope."

from my understanding, trend of being a sickly victorian girl roots from the new age term “bed rotting” which is the act of lying in bed longer then you should while doing unnecessary tasks like scrolling on social media, watching tv/shows, or over reading which can vary on a spectrum from self care/ health or depression/isolation. combining bed rotting as the parallel of being bed ridden or sickly with the modern take of victorian style we get the concept of being a sickly victorian girl.

conceptualizing:

you feel sickly, lightheaded and fatigued with fainting spells and sweats. (probably just depression)

you slip into a 19th century cotton nightgown, holding a lit white candle in a small brass holder with your finger.

you lie in bed with a warm handmade quilt and cold pillow. at your side is a silver plate with a matching small tea set. next to this is a three forked candle holder basking the room in a comfortable radiance.

the tea warms your insides while you pick up your first edition poetry for a quick read before bed. your grandma cracks open the door to say she loves you, and goodnight.

ideas:

  • vintage nightgown

  • bedside lavender or fresh wildflowers

  • journal w/ fountain pen and ink

  • your favorite book

  • pretty tea set

  • soft cotton socks

  • candle light

  • snuggle companion
  • letters to open

these are just a few of the ways you can branch off with this aesthetic. i hope this guide have you an idea of where you can go with this concept.

the aesthetic of the victorians is beautiful to say the least and its wonderful that we live in a time and age where we can look back at the beauty of history, separating the ugly, while being able to delve into the vintage as a whole and finding bits and pieces you want to keep with you.

thanks for reading! love willow jane <3
